Welcome to Fall 7’s Rugby season.  Practice will be tomorrow Tues 6pm – 7:30 for boys and til 8pm for girls at Farmington.  Thursday will be at Houston softball due to soccer games. 

We are a club teamopen to students in Germantown/Collierville/Cordova area including homeschoolers.

Germantown Rugby Girls had an amazing first season with 19 rookie players shocking the conference and advancing to the TN state tournament.

The Mustang Middle School Rugby team won their 2nd consecutive Tennessee Middle School Rugby State Championship Saturday May 9th at MTSU. The Mustangs advanced to the championship game after dropping Stewarts Creek of Middle TN 35-5. In the championship game the Mustangs got their 7th shut out of the season dominating Woodland Middle School from Brentwood TN 20-0. 8th grader Finlay Bolan of Houston Middle received the tournament MVP award for his outstanding tackling and ball carrying performance.

The Mustangs have won 5 consecutive West TN Rugby conference championships, 2 state 15’s Rugby titles and 1 Olympic 7’s Rugby state title; making it one of the most successful Rugby programs in the state of Tennessee. Mustang Middle Rugby finished the season with a perfect 11-0 record which also included a win over the Germantown high school freshman Rugby squad. The Mustangs are coached by Kevin Roedel, Brooks Williams and Kevin Wright who all played together at Memphis State and Memphis Blues Rugby clubs and new assitant Paul Burdette

The Mustangs have 10 players playing on the Tennessee Tristar Rugby squad coached by Mustang coaches Kevin Roedel and Brooks Williams. The Tristars will compete against all star middle school Rugby teams from SC, GA, FL, NC, LA and AR June 20 & 21 at the South Regional All Star tournament in Charlotte, NC. THE RAST tournament is one of 6 tournaments across the country that USA Rugby selects players to participate in the High School All American program and feed the US Olympic Rugby development pool.

Rugby 7’s season runs October – December and 15’s season begins in late January – May. The Germantown Rugby Club and Mustang programs have seen tremendous participation growth and are working with Germantown City Government and Parks & Recreation to secure a home field within Germantown city limits. Rugby is the only youth sport in Germantown that does not have access to managed field space to host games in Germantown. Currently both squads and their families have to travel to Midtown, Bartlett or Millington to play home matches. Welcome to the 2014 & 2015 TN Middle School State Champions – Mustang Middle Rugby Club!!!!!!

Mustang Middle Rugby Club is a member of the West Tennessee High Scool and Middle School Rugby Conference, which particpates in the Tennessee Rugby Association founded in 2001. The Mustangs Middle Rugby Club currently fields 2 middle school teams Junior Varsity (6th & smaller 7th graders) and Varsity (7th & 8th graders) made up of Riverdale Elementary, Germantown Middle, Houston Middle, Collierville Middle and area private schools and home schoolers.

Mustang Middle Rugby has a NO CUT – EVERYONE PLAYS policy and is open to ANY student or homeschooler in the surrounding Germantown area.

Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports because this high-speed contact sport challenges all aspects of athletic ability. Players utilize a number of skills to pass, run, kick, tackle and score. Players are required to think on their feet and demonstrate decision-making skills under pressure. Most of all RUGBY is a team sport like no other that will develop camaraderie among teammates and respect for the opposition at parent sponsored post game socials. Rugby is a participation sport that keeps enthusiast involved for years to come.

The goal of the Mustang Middle Rugby Club is to utilize Rugby as a teaching platform to instill pride, sound judgment, a strong work ethic, leadership and team work in students in the Germantown area.

Player Registration is available online; players fees are $85 payable to Germantown Youth Ruby

All players also need to be registered at http://www.trarugby.org/ as a Mustang Middle player. The state registration fee is $65
